ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

 The department of geography was founded when the college was first established in 1984. Its faculty members are dedicated to providing instruction of the highest caliber. The department offers courses that are both theoretical and practical. Either physical geography or human geography is covered in the courses. The department arranges study trips or socioeconomic surveys of villages in various locations of the nation that are of geographic interest as a component of the practical course. Students are encouraged to pursue higher education and research endeavors due to the department’s dedication to providing both fundamental and applied instruction. Additionally, as geography is one of the main subjects in many competitive exams, students find it beneficial to study for the exam.

The department is equipped with Survey of India surveying instruments, wall maps, and tracing tables. The department is equipped with toposheets, weather maps, charts, models, weather instrument models, computer sets with internet access, and necessary furnishings. Undergraduate courses at the general level (B.A.in Geography) are offered by the department. In addition to traditional teaching techniques, educational tools such as maps, charts, LCDs, OHPs, and geographical models are utilized to enhance student learning. Students are given practical information through scheduled trips to industries and village surveys. Additional opportunities for improvement are provided via candid conversations and student input. In addition to class room learning, tours, excursions, library, internet, seminars, guest lectures are the other means of learning in the department. The effective methods like group discussions, seminars, and assessment of journals, tests, tutorials and tour reports are helpful to evaluate the students.

GOALS

  • To acquaint the students with the dynamic aspects of resources and need for their conservation.
  • To acquaint the students with the utility and application of Physical geography in different regions and environment.
  • To make the students aware about Earth system (Lithosphere, Atmosphere, Biosphere and Hydrosphere)
  • To make aware the students about the problems of environment , their utilization and conservation in the view of sustainable development
  • To make students aware of the magnitude of problems and prospects in India, especially in Maharashtra.
  • To explain the elementary and essential principles of practical work in Geography.
  • To inculcate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities on disaster management.
  • To develop the skills to arrange, manage and implement various types of tours.
  • To gain knowledge about different aspects of Tourism.
  • To introduce the students with SOI Toposheets and IMD Weather Charts with its interpretation.
  • To develop the understanding of the basic concept of research.
